SUP AR6 Reports
The Summary for Urban Policymakers (SUP) series provides a synthetic overview of the IPCC Assessment Report 6. The SUP SR1.5 synthesized the findings from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C and was released in November 2018 at COP 23 in Bonn.
The SUP series were launched at COP 27 on 11 November 2022 in Sharm-El-Shaikh, Egypt. The three volumes are:
SUP AR6 Volume I: What the Latest Physical Science of Climate Change Means for Cities and Urban Areas, distilled from the IPCC Working Group I report;
SUP AR6 Volume II: What the Latest Science on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability means for Cities and Urban Areas, distilled from the IPCC Working Group II report;
SUP AR6 Volume III: What the Latest Science on Climate Change Mitigation Means For Cities and Urban Areas, distilled from the IPCC Working Group III report.
Building from the Summary for Urban Policymakers of the IPCC’s AR6 Report: From Science to Action
The SUP initiative has developed a companion series to the official IPCC reports, distilling the latest climate change science for the urban context.
Following the launch of the first three SUP reports (Volumes I-III), the SUP initiative has also released a stand-alone Action Agenda, which captures the key findings from the SUP volumes, but goes beyond the SUP series and the foundational IPCC reports, to include inputs from city and business leaders gathered through a series of regional convenings.
Distinct from the official SUP series, which is authored by the scientific community with input from practitioners, the Action Agenda is written from the perspective of city and business leaders and organizations that represent them. It is informed by and grounded in the knowledge derived from the findings of the SUP process, and with the goal of establishing a long-term platform to co-create and scale urban solutions based in science.
